IN A NUTSHELL:

  • Research reveals new health benefits of coffee

  • Improved blood sugar among benefits

  • May increase healthy gut bacteria

An increasing amount of research is revealing the health benefits of drinking coffee. An article in Medical News Today cited a new study that said drinking one cup of coffee a day might ward off unhealthy fat and mitigate inflammation correlated with obesity.

The analyses revealed that high caffeine consumers had high levels of  Faecalibacterium and Roseburia, also known as healthy gut bacteria, but low levels of Erysipelatoclostridium — a “potentially harmful” bacteria.

The researchers found the associations regardless of the participants’ age or the quality of their diets.

Furthermore, the study said that drinking at least three cups of coffee every day may improve the health of arteries by preventing a buildup of calcium and thwarting the risk of clogging. Research from the study also said that coffee could ward off diabetes by improving blood sugar control.
